A Mile In My Shoes

Please notice the pair of tennis shoes on your left. I bought that particular pair of shoes about, oh maybe 3 years ago. I promised myself when I bought them, they would be the pair of shoes that I walked a marathon in.

Well, that never happened.

Apparently, they worked like a charm for my daughter and son-in-law, as they DID complete a marathon after I bought these shoes.

About a year ago, I got myself a very expensive pair of tennis shoes. That would be the pair to your right, thinking OK, well, I'll just walk a little bit in these. Forget about the big goals and dreams of completing marathons.

Maybe I could just keep the dust off of these, and I have. I've been wearing them to work. Their a great pair of shoes and my left knee doesn't hurt when I wear them.

So, about three days ago I decided to go for a walk.

I walked a 30 minute mile. I was giving it everything I had too. Huffin' and puffin', face all red. What a sight to behold. My blood pressure was probably 300/199. That is so sad isn't it?

Just think, at one mile per 30 minutes, it would take me about 13 hours to complete a marathon. That is if I didn't fall over dead trying.

I've lead a sedentary life. It's starting to catch up with me.

I'm thinking about buying a new pair of tennis shoes!

~~~How about you? Have you ever just failed miserably at something you just desperately wanted to do? ~~~
I can relate to this post! I just ordered a new pair of walking shoes...lets see if I actually walk in them! LOL!
It seems like something is always aching, and I give in to it and them I'm disappointed in myself. Ahhhh, old age, now for the weak of spirit!
Well we'd make a fine pair of red Deb's walking along together! I don't redden from walking, but I do when I jog. Guess what? I don't jog anymore. My face doesn't like it.
This was hilarious because it's SO ME!!
Have I ever failed miserably at something I wanted to do? YES!!
I urged my husband to buy a 'home gym' with weights and pulleys that offered all sorts of great exercises. I KNEW I'd use it several times a week to lose weight and tone up.
I did - for the first several weeks. Then I slacked-off and used it maybe once a week. Then I used it when I felt guilty for eating too much pizza or ice cream. Then I resolved myself to dusting the cobwebs off of it once a month.
Today? It sits in our son's house where his wife doesn't even bother to dust it. ;)
How funny we are.
HA! I have finally broken in my tennis shoes... I don't run, but I do walk. Honestly, it's so boring... but it does make my clothes fit better! You crack me up! This was so funny. As to failing miserably, I've done that, about 300 times on the scale, up and down... I think I may finally be doing it consistently... so the answer would be YES, I've failed at dieting and exercise, for years... :)... :(
I started out "having" to walk and now after two months (through Sparkpeople")of daily walking an average of 1 mile a day plus eating healthy I am feeling so much better.
I actually look forward the the feeling AFTER the walk is over (I feel so energized) and listening to the music on my mp3 player during the walk. I have a collection of oldies from the 60's and 70's that really put me in good mood as well.
Go for it!
I definitely can relate, Debra. I think getting these last 10 or so pounds is what I have miserably failed at. But, I've decided that I'm not going to worry about it anymore.
I was walking fairly good for awhile then stubbed(and I think broke) my little toe. It was swollen for a long time and I couldn't even get my shoes on. Now that it's mended nicely I want to get out and walk again, but now I need a pair of good walking shoes. Soon I hope.
Thanks for stopping by. I have been so out of the loop with blogging since we moved. Feels good to be back.
Hugs!
Maybe baby steps instead of long ones?
Well at least you went out there and did it! Maybe you should have just done a quarter mile your first time out, lol.Now you're making the rest of us feel guilty for not putting on our walking shoes. Thanks for the push!
Of course! I fail all the bloomin' time. But I have also succeeded at several things too - that's what I like to focus on :)
I like your new shoes!
I agree with Jennifer - I like your new shoes, and I like the looks of the old pair as well. Too bad we can't burn unwanted calories just admiring...
As far as failing, that has occasionally been a grace that I didn't recognize until later. The nongraced ones do their part in keeping me plenty humble!
Thanks for dropping by, Debra. Always good to see your cute smile pop up.
Me too. That's why I'll probably never participate in a marathon of any kind.
HI DEBRA!!!!
A Marathon is on my bucket list, even a 5-K I think counts as a Marathon, or a half one at that, but I too, give up easily on things that cause me Pain, but I did take a PROACTIVE approach to my weight loss goals. I had gained nearly 15 pounds in 2 years and decided that was it, I started walking/jogging ever so slowly too but each week it is getting easier. I have lost 8 pounds so far, in almost 6 weeks , but hey I am still dieting!!No more candy and NO MORE CUPCAKES!!!
I have lots of disappointments, but mostly they are over words I have said, when people say mean things to me or about me or my family, I feel the need to strike back and make them see how wrong they were, THAT IS NOT MY PLACE, I have NO Problem sticking up for other people, but I should not get angry over mean words said to me, I should Just let it go, but it is hard and I am struggling now because of this little-- she is 29-- daughter of my cousins saying so many mean and hurtful things. I just wish I could go back and just pretend like I heard nothing, but I felt like that was soooo wrong.
Please keep me in your Prayers sweetie, as I must try to keep quiet from now on.
Have a Blessed week, I will Pray for your walking and I hope you are touched and can walk a mile in those shoes, walking it every day!!
I need to walk in your shoes to become more quiet and long suffering.
Hugs and love,
jamie
Failure is something I always deal with in regards to my weight. I usually succeed in other endeavors, but for some crazy reason my weight holds me back. I have dieted and lost it all only to regain it plus more back.
Now add that with age and arthritis and it is not a pretty picture. I just make a u turn and try again.
Up until this arthritis hit me I was very active. On good days I do what I can and try not to beat myself up on the bad days.
This was a great post and I think all of us can relate to it.
I love the Mother Teresa quote at the top of your header. It fits me to a T.
