Autumn Thoughts

What can I say--I've always loved the month of October.

That is with the exception of Halloween and all that hoopla of black cats, scary pumpkins and evil spirits--that I shall not dwell on for the purposes of this post.

It's a beautiful time of the year.

I thought that fall had come early to us here in the south--but it was just teasing with us. We had a few really cool days and then before you knew it we were back up to eighty and ninety degrees.

We finally had some rain a couple of days ago, so now, once again, there is a slight coolness in the air. It is welcomed.

When my children were little we would save our change for a whole year so that we would have enough money to take them to the fair. What a great time we would have! The rides, the food, the fellowship of seeing friends and neighbors. Pleasant memories for sure.

I fell in love for the first and only time in October of 1967. There has never been an October since then that I do not remember that event with special fondness. Most think of February as being the month of love. For me, the month of October is the month of love. Love remembered and love renewed.

Now that we are "seniors", we have the freedom to travel in the month of October. I love to travel. It's so thrilling to discover new places, people, and things. Ironic, I guess, that I should say that, since we've spent the last three Octobers in NYC-- but the thing about New York is that when you are visiting New York city, you are visiting the world--so many cultures and nations represented in such a small condensed area--I can't seem to see enough of it.

My husband and I will be on vacation in a few weeks--I'll leave everyone to guess where we are headed!

So very much to rejoice about. Thank the Lord those miners made it out of that underground tomb! What a blessing to seem them brought up from that black hole! God was surely with them.

There seems to be so much negativity concerning our nation and the direction it is headed in, but I can't help but believe that God is God and I am comforted by the fact that HE has all this under control. Really He does. I don't understand why we think it matters if Republicans or Democrats are in control of our country. God is in control. What party does He belong to? Don't answer that. *smile*

I've rambled on enough.

I'd like to end this post with a few of my favorite quotes:

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."
— Mother Teresa

Happy autumn blessings ya'll,
Debra

What a good quote from Mother Theresa. As Christians we have it so good with God as our boss!
I'm sending this to my printer to add to my new desk space. I'm justs going ahead and let me hopes soar that I will be chosen for the full-time job. If I don't, I'll move the quote back to my old part-time desk. :)
I love October too - in spite of the fact that my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage a few days before Halloween in 1981. I'm confident the baby went right to heaven, so it's actually kind of bittersweet.

What a beautiful autumn reflections post! I'm blessed today by you opening of your heart to share with us all that October means to you.
God is such an Awesome Creator and what a joy it is that He shares October beauty with us.
I can't imagine (but then I can when I consider my own spiritual life) what those miners must feel like to have been delivered from the pit of darkness into the 'Light' of day. Oh that we'd all rejoice over these things.
And I agree with you about God being in control. Why bicker and debate politics? God knows.
Praying you have a MOST ENJOYABLE get-away and that God grants you safe travel and fun!
Hugs,
Deb

Hi there, I loved the photos of the mums-so very beautiful. I agree totally with your sentiments about Oct. I only celebrate Harvest and love this season. We've been to NYC twice in Oct. and it was fun but I loved upstate N.Y. better. Have a wonderful vacation.
Blessings, Noreen

I have a "do it anyway" poems, the wording isn't the same as yours but the idea is, hanging in my entry hall. It came to me way back in the 80' when I was having to do a lot of that "do it anyway" things and I treasure it because it got me through some very dark days.

Enjoy your holiday!!!

October is always a favorite month for me too, because there is so much sports...baseball winding down, football in full swing, basketball and hockey just beginning.

And here in the northwest, I get to experience such amazing colors as the season goes on.

Enjoy your vacation!

Hello Debra,
I'm happy to have found your blog, I think it is outstanding! I live in California so we don't really experience the changing of seasons like other states do. My husband & I are so thrilled it has been lightly raining all day, because it has been too hot lately.

I agree with you in regard to October is great "with the exception of Halloween." I will be following your blog.

My blog is new & I would love to welcome you to my blog if you get the chance.
God bless your night,
Michele Katherine

Oh, what a beautiful quote from Mother Teresa! I never heard that before. I want to be just like her when I grow up :-)

We love NY too! AND we love October..it's our anniversary month. Sometime maybe we'll do NY to celebrate. We were only there once, over the 4th of July. Love the big melting pot of diversity there...

I love the Fall too, my favorite time of year. I'm finally, little by little learning not to dread about the season that follows, it's key to enjoying the season I'm now in. I guess it proves you're never to old to learn!
Have a wonderful vacation!!
