Hot Air

Hello everyone and greetings from south Mississippi! Hope all of you had a very happy and safe fourth of July. This year we celebrated the fourth a little differently. Well actually we celebrated on the second of July.

I don't know about you but I tend to keep an internal "bucket list" of places I would like to visit and things I would like to do. I have always enjoyed looking at pictures of the Arizona Balloon Festival and hoped to one day see it in person.

Imagine my surprise when I found out they have a balloon festival every year in Canton, MS! Just an hour and a half from our home! The day was extra special in that we got to enjoy it with five of our youngest grandchildren. What a blessing.

The children just loved these!

Yep! They even had a space shuttle balloon! What fun! This thing was huge!

Hope all of you will forgive my blog laziness. I have been bogged down with some books that have captured my attention of late. I am even reading some fiction! Imagine that! Books have a very calming effect on me and I enjoy reading them so very much.

Have I mentioned it's hot here in Mississippi? I am not complaining though ...nope...not one bit!

(At least not as long as my air conditioner is running anyway)

Glad you got to enjoy this. The International Balloon Festival is in Albuquerque, NM each October. You might enjoy reading my post about our Hot Air Balloon Suzy Blue. I wrote 7 posts about it. Here is the link for the first:

Debra,
How serene and quiet and peaceful, huh? We didn't go this year, but we also have a hot-air balloon festival near us each summer. Many years it's too rainy or windy for them to inflate and lift off. I'm so glad you were able to experience that (and with your grandchildren).
Hugs and prayers,
Deb

We used to go and see the balloons in Longview, Tx. It was a three day event with all kinds of fun things to do. I could see them from our house floating in the sky.

Debra, where do you live in Mississippi? I want to take a trip to the southern part of Alabama to research some family genalogy. Then go up to see our son in Montgomery. I would love to meet you.

Thank you for the kind comment you left me. It is much appreciated.

Not gettin' me to go up in one of those things. Just got back from a half a week with grandson and family in Chincoteague, VA. The firemen had a carnival, but us chickens did not ride the ferris wheel.

HI!!!
I think they moved our balloon festival somewhere else, it use to be in Fountain Hills, well we decided to inquire about it one day, and they said NO FUNDING, that it has been gone for a few years, so New Mexico now has it and I think they have always had there's , we just joined them!!!!
SO GLAD you found this one!!!I also am intrigued by HOT air balloons, one day --Maybe a ride in one!!What a great way to spend your day!!!
hugs,
jamie
I have a bucket list too!!!!

always enjoy a good hot air balloon festival! And the added benefit for you was you got to spend time with your grandchildren! Awesome! I liked the pictures of all the balloons! When we lived in Santa Fe, NM, we went to the Albuquerque one years ago; that was impressive to see all the different shaped balloons!

Good for you for reading; I think we sometimes forget to read a good book now and then when we get so absorbed in blog reading!

stay as cool as you can!

I'm so glad you got to see it...and with your grandchildren makes it even better! I remember being on the road in Lancaster, PA one late afternoon with my folks. I was about 9 or so. I looked out the window and saw all these beautiful balloons scattered in the sky. My Dad pulled over and we just watched them as one by one they flew over our heads for over an hour. It was breathtaking! I don't know where they were coming from or where they were going, but I'm so glad I got to see it! I'll never forget it, and I bet your grandchildren will always remember this, too! How fun is that space shuttle one?! WOW!

They are such beautul things, it always looks like the sky is full of flowers and colors...

Enjoy these summer days, even though it's hot and humid, it's the same here in Texas. Yikes! :(

How on earth did our grandparents survive without A.C.??

Five of your youngest grandchildren? I bet there is a school district close by who will be surplusing an old school bus soon - you might want to look into that.

We have an annual Hot Air Balloon festival here in Michigan. It's been years since we have attended... but I'm thinking, that would be somewhere to take our grandbabies next year!
Don't you just love the bright colors as they float away...it is a beautiful sight!

I love Balloon Festivals too, Debra. We have them in Natchez every October coinciding with Fall Pilgrimage. Believe me, it wasn't easy to stay on a diet in New Orleans but we just came from a cruise 2 days before going to New Orleans and that was even harder to stay away from desserts. Mmm, this diet has a wrong timing...Christine
