August Ponderings

(nearby lake, I was rather pleased with this shot)

So, tonight is Friday night. Everyone around here is all excited as it is the first night for high school football. Is it just me or is it strange that these poor football players are having to practice and play football in 100 degree weather? I know I'm getting a little old but I can remember when school started in late September and for sure it was unheard of before Labor Day.

(bird house by the lake)

Noticing this bird house by the lake I was immediately reminded of the following scripture..."Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" Matthew 6:26

(Son and daughter in law helping me with router problems)

Recently, I had router problems. One evening I had my daughter, son and daughter in law over and they decided to try and tackle the problem. I found it kind of funny when I looked into the bedroom and counted not one, not two, not three but four computers in the mix of things. I thought about how far we've come with technology from the days when the television was a very small tube in a very large wood box. We recently got out some old home movies when I was a child about 1956 and I was amazed by the old black and white TV set we had.

I'm not one of the lucky ones going to the game as tonight begins my weekend to work. Five 12hours shifts in a row. I should say weekend and Monday and Tuesday! I find myself thankful though. Thankful I have a job, thankful for a nice house to come home to and blessed with loved ones. Just call me thankful.

Blessings everyone hope your weekend will be great!

Yes, we all have MANY things to be thankful for, and I am. One of the things I love about living in my small town is I get to hear the H.S. band practicing in the morning when I walk. I love that. Also get to hear the sound of the train whistler late at night and in the early morning. I love that sound.

I feel for those guys playing football outside in this heat. I hope they are all safe from heat related issues.

Small towns are so nice to live in.

I hope your kids got your router problems fixed.

I would be beat after working your shift. I don't know how you do it.

Take care Debra.

Debra, Actually, I think I'd rather be doing shift work in an A.C environment rather than sweating it out in that heat at the stadium. Yet another blessing to be counted. :-)

I agree with you. "After Labor Day" is soon enough for the start of school. I'm convinced that kids learn better with generous servings of rest and relaxation.

Definitely air conditioning is something to be very thankful for these hot summer days....I can remember when we didn't have it as a child but now we are spoiled and expect it.....but oh so glad it was invented.....

I grew up in a small town and anticipation of football games was a big deal.....I miss some of that excitement.

Hugs and blessings,
Nancy

That is a funny pic with all of them surrounded by all that technology!

My nephew lives in Mesa, AZ (Phoenix) and has been having to practice for football season in over 100 degree weather. I think it's crazy!

Have a great week!

Football is important in your part of the world? 5 12's in a row...that would get old fast. Hang in there.
