Broken People...Broken Hearts

I have been drawn to broken people & broken hearts for as long as I can remember.

It was 6th grade. Her name was Patricia Scarbourgh. She was skinny, greasy hair, unkept, and her family was a mess. The kids at school made fun of her. All the time. I hated it. One day I had had enough. This big, loud mouth boy was calling her names in the lunch room, I got up out of my seat, walked over to where he was standing in line and very closely and ever so calmly, eye to eye, teeth gritted, told him to "leave her alone". "You hear me"? I said. "Just...leave...her...alone."
He shut up.

"He" was a broken person.
"She" was a broken heart.

How I have longed many a day to just put my dear sweet Jesus in a syringe and to inject Him ever so gently into the broken people and broken hearts I see on a daily basis. I tend to see broken people and broken hearts every where these days.

You've seen them too. The angry, the unkind, the haters, the drunks, the drug addicts, the homeless, the sick, the poor, the ugly, the scarred, the proud, the arrogant, the fatherless, the motherless, the wounded, the fearful, the depressed, the forsaken, the adulterers, the thiefs, the murderers. Yep, they are all there. We just have to really see.

Matthew 5:46 tell us that if we love only them which loves us, what reward do we have? We are commanded to "be ye therefore perfect" (vs 48) even as our Father is perfect. So, I take it...we are to love the unlovable? I guess that is what that means. Wow!

Its taken me awhile, but I have come to realize it is what God has called me to do. Help broken people, broken hearts as best I can. Show them Jesus. I feel I fall so short. May our precious Lord help me to do better from this day forward.

Psalm 147;3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

Blessings, Peace, All Good,

What a beautiful post. You are right there are many out there who are broken in different ways. They are not so different from the rest of us. Most of us have been broken in some way at some point in our lives.

We can fix our broken lives, get over broken hearts, but the broken spirit is the hardest to repair.
